News from Porter County Right to Life

2014 Popcorn Parade - A Witness for Life

What a beautiful day for a parade it was!  Porter County Right to Life was joined by more than 40 people on Sept. 6th as we marched in the Popcorn Parade in Valparaiso, sharing a strong message of life with the thousands of spectators crowding the streets.  We carried banners, passed out popcorn packets bearing pro-life information, and waved and smiled at the crowd.  At specified points along the parade route, an announcer read a short passage about Porter County Right to Life and how to find us on social media.  What a blessing it is to be welcomed as an entry in the Popcorn Parade each year, as it provides us with an opportunity to expose the public to a positive message of life.  Plan to march with us next year!

Another Successful Year at the Fair

Our faithful team of volunteers has allowed Porter County Right to Life to educate and
interact with hundreds of fair-goers again this year, delivering a pro-life message to some
who might never attend our banquet or otherwise hear the truth about the sanctity of life.
So many people examined the series of fetal models, as well as the “Precious One” life-
like model of a 12 week developing fetus that can be held in the hand. Moms and dads
expecting a baby used these tools to show their children what their growing brother or
sister looks like. A National Geographic DVD detailing the amazing development of a
baby in the womb ran continuously. All who signed up to join our email list were entered
into a raffle to win a $50 restaurant gift card. The winner’s name will be announced next
week. Pro-life literature and balloons were freely given, while pro-life merchandise was
available at cost. The only profit PCRTL hopes to gain from the fair booth is hearts won
to the pro-life cause! Consider joining us at the booth in 2015!

Prayer Vigil a Success Despite Frigid Temperatures!

The 2nd Annual Pro-Life Prayer Vigil was held on Saturday January 18th at the old Courthouse Square in Valparaiso.  Over 65 dedicated souls braved frigid temperatures and snow to stand in solidarity with those who would soon be doing the same in Washington DC at the annual March for Life.  Prayer was the focus of the hour, as participants lifted up life-related intentions in small groups and as one body of pro-life believers.  Rosanne Kouris of Rachel's Vineyard spoke of the emotional and physical pain that abortion causes for mothers and fathers who make that tragic choice, and the restoration and healing that can be found in the Lord.  PCRTL Board member Dan Willett talked about his experience attending several of the March for Life events.  Hot chocolate was served to many appreciative participants!  Please plan to join us next year for this most prayerful and important hour.

2013 Annual Banquet

Porter County Right to Life held its annual banquet on November 9, 2013.  A large group of pro-life guests gathered at Old Town Banquet Center in Valparaiso to enjoy dinner and the fellowship of many others who stand for life.  Our guest speaker for the evening was Steven Ertelt, the founder and editor of LifeNews.com, which provides news to the pro-life community through website, email, social networking, and radio program.  Steven’s talk was well-received by our guests.

Luis and Elizabeth Barajas were joined at the podium by their children as the couple was awarded the 38th Annual Stinchfield Memorial Award.   We honor and thank them for their strong stand for life.

We were also fortunate to have Rebekkah Liss, the winner of the PCRTL Oratory Contest, present her speech to an appreciative audience.  It is encouraging to hear our youth speak boldly for the pro-life cause.

If you were unable to attend this year’s banquet, we hope you have an opportunity to join us next year for what is always a defining event in our pro-life community.

Porter County Life Chain Draws Crowds

The Porter County Life Chains, which took place in Chesterton, Valparaiso, and Portage, were a huge success. The Chesterton Life Chain alone drew approximately 115 participants. Attendees silently held signs in a peaceful and prayerful testament to the value of life and the sad reality of abortion. Food and fellowship were enjoyed by all at a picnic held at St. Patrick Church.
